10 in 2010

As you may know, running has become a passion of mine the past few years. Whether I am going out for a leisurely jog with my dog or running a marathon, I enjoy every minute of it. Running has given me a lot and I have learned a lot about myself. I feel that now it is time to give something back.

My plan is to personally donate 10 cents for every mile I run in 2010 (hence 10 in 10). I have not yet determined the charity. I use a Nike+ sensor and watch which will digitally track all my miles – so you know the results are accurate. I will be periodically posting updates through the year, so be sure to check back!

Milestones:

I will donate the following additional amounts for achieving various distance/time related milestones.

  • If I reach 1,000 total miles – I will double my donation to 20 cents per mile (to give you a point of reference, I ran 847 miles in 2009)
  • I will donate an extra $20 for each of these lofty race goals that I achieve. I included my personal record (PR) to date as well:
    • 5k (3.1 miles):
      • Goal: 20 minutes 30 seconds (6:36/mi)
      • PR: 21 minutes 19 seconds (6:52/mi)
    • 10k (6.2 miles)
      • Goal: 43 minutes 35 seconds (7:00/mi)
      • PR: 52 minutes 27 seconds (8:28/mi)
    • 20k
      • Goal: 1 hour 30 minutes (7:15/mi)
      • PR: 1 hour 52 minutes (7:48/mi)
    • Half Marathon
      • Goal: 1 hour 35 minutes (7:15/mi)
      • PR: I have never run a Half Marathon race.
    • Marathon
      • Goal: 3 hours 55 minutes 30 seconds (9:00/mi)
      • PR: 4 hours 8 minutes 7 seconds (9:26/mi)
